Categories and services: get eligibility right
Primary and secondary categories tell Google what you are. MOT centre and auto repair shop (when true) beat a vague catch-all. Then list services the way drivers search: MOT testing, servicing, clutch replacement, brake repair, diagnostics, tyres, air conditioning.
Skipping this step is why capable garages never appear for MOT near me. Maps cannot recommend you for a service the profile never claimed.
Hours, photos and the workshop as it really is
Wrong hours lose evening and Saturday searches instantly. Keep opening times accurate, including bank holidays. Photos of the real bay, the team and real jobs outperform stock imagery, and Google favours profiles that look maintained rather than abandoned.
Update photos when the workshop changes. A listing that still shows last year's layout signals neglect to both Google and drivers comparing you with a rival that posted last week.
Reviews that name the car and the fix
Review count and rating help prominence. Review content helps ranking and conversion. Ask customers to mention what was done ("MOT and service on our Fiesta") rather than a generic compliment. Never script or incentivise reviews; build a simple ask into key handover.
Reply to every review, including the awkward ones. A calm, specific reply often persuades the next reader more than silence does.
Citations and name consistency
Your garage name, address and phone number should match everywhere they appear: directories, supplier listings, old Facebook pages. Inconsistencies dilute trust and confuse Maps. Clean the obvious mismatches before chasing advanced tactics.
Website pages still support Maps
Maps is the front door, but service pages back the listing. A clear MOT page, servicing page and repair pages give Google more to associate with your business and give the driver somewhere to read before they commit. If you are EV or hybrid qualified, a dedicated page can own a search few local rivals have claimed yet.
A free ranking audit from Azizi Technologies checks your Maps position for MOT and repair terms across your town, then lists the profile and page gaps keeping you out of the pack.
