SEO for New Businesses: Get Found on Google From Week One
A new UK business gets on Google in three steps: verify a Google Business Profile at the correct address or service area, publish a fast website whose name, phone and services match it exactly, then collect the first reviews. Done properly this typically takes two to six weeks. Azizi Technologies sets it up and runs it.
Nobody has heard of you yet, and that is the whole problem. Word of mouth has not started, you have no reviews, and the competitors who have been trading for a decade sit above you on every search that matters. The instinct is to wait until the business is established before spending anything on marketing — which is exactly backwards, because the assets that rank take weeks to build and months to compound.
The good news is that the first month of work is largely mechanical rather than competitive. Most new businesses are invisible not because their market is hard, but because the profile is unverified, the website says something different from the listing, and nobody has asked a single customer for a review. Those are fixable in weeks, and fixing them is what puts a new business into the map pack for the first time.

The roadmap
Your roadmap, phase by phase
What Azizi Technologies actually does for SEO for New Businesses, in the order it happens — and how long each part takes.
Phase 1
Get the profile verified — everything waits on this
A Google Business Profile is the single highest-value free asset a new local business has, and nothing else works until it is verified. We set it up correctly first time: the right primary category, the address shown or hidden depending on whether customers come to you, and services listed individually. Getting this wrong at the start causes suspensions later that take weeks to unwind.
Phase 2
Make the website agree with the profile
Google cross-checks your listing against your website. If the phone number differs by a digit, or the site says one trading name and Companies House says another, the listing is trusted less. A new business has the rare advantage of no legacy mess — we make everything match from day one, which is far cheaper than reconciling it in year three.
Phase 3
Get the first reviews in
The hardest reviews to get are the first five, and they matter more than any that follow. We give you a routine that fits how you actually work — when to ask, how to make it one tap, and what never to do, because incentivised reviews breach Google's rules and can cost you the listing you just built.
Phase 4
Then build the pages that compete
Only once the foundations hold do we write the pages that go after the competitive searches — one per service, one per area you genuinely cover. This is the part that takes months rather than weeks, and starting it before the profile is verified wastes both.
How long before a new business shows up on Google?
Verification typically takes a few days to two weeks depending on the method Google asks for, and the profile can start appearing for your own business name almost immediately afterwards. Appearing for what you actually sell — “plumber in Luton” rather than your trading name — is the slower part: expect early movement in two to six weeks, and a genuine map-pack position in three to six months in most towns.
There is one honest caveat specific to new listings. Google is cautious with businesses it has just met: a brand-new profile often sits lower than its completeness deserves for the first weeks, then settles. That is normal and it is not a sign the work failed. Azizi Technologies tells you what to expect at the audit rather than promising week-one rankings nobody can deliver.
Good to know
Do I need a website before I can rank?
Not to appear on Google Maps — a verified Google Business Profile alone can rank in the map pack, and plenty of new businesses take their first enquiries that way while the site is still being built. If money is tight in month one, the profile is where it should go.
But the businesses that rank and stay ranked almost all have a site, because Google uses it to corroborate what the listing claims and because a searcher comparing three profiles usually clicks through to check you are real. A single fast page with your services, your area and a way to contact you does most of that job.
Good to know
Should I use my home address?
If customers do not come to you, do not show it. Google's rules treat a business that travels to its customers as a service-area business: you declare the areas you cover and hide the address entirely. Showing a home address you do not trade from is one of the most common reasons new listings get suspended.
If customers do visit — a salon, a clinic, a shop — then the address is shown and it must match what is on your signage and your other listings. The distinction matters more than almost anything else in the initial setup, and it is very hard to change later without a re-verification.
Good to know
Is it too early to spend money on SEO?
It depends on what you would be buying. Paying for a full competitive campaign in month one, before you know which services actually sell, is premature. Getting the profile verified, the details consistent and the review habit started is not — it is the cheapest work in the whole discipline and it is worth more in month one than in month twelve, because everything after it compounds.
The honest version: if your budget only covers one thing this quarter, make it the foundations. We would rather set those up properly and have you come back when the diary is fuller than sell a new business a campaign it cannot yet feed.

Side by side
What a new business should do first, and what can wait
| Task | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Verify the Google Business Profile | Week one | Nothing else ranks until this exists, and errors here cause suspensions later |
| Match website details to the profile | Weeks one to two | Google cross-checks the two; mismatches cost trust immediately |
| Ask the first customers for reviews | From the first job | The first five reviews are the hardest and the most valuable |
| Core citations and other map platforms | Month one | Cheap, quick, and they corroborate your details |
| Service and area pages | Months two onward | Slower to earn rankings, and pointless before the foundations hold |
| Competitive city terms | Months three to six | Requires the above to be working first |
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, no small print. If yours isn’t here, ask — you’ll get the same plain English.
How much does SEO cost for a brand-new business?
It is quoted from your free audit, and for a new business the sensible starting point is usually the foundations rather than a full campaign. Fees are a monthly amount on a rolling agreement with no lock-in, so you are never committed while you are still finding your feet.
Can I do the first steps myself?
Yes, and if money is tight you should. Verifying the profile, listing services properly and asking every customer for a review are all things an owner can do. The audit tells you exactly what is missing, and you are welcome to act on it yourself — plenty of people do, and come back later when the diary is full.
How long until I get my first enquiry from Google?
For your own business name, often within days of verification. For the searches that bring strangers — your service plus your town — expect early movement in two to six weeks and a real position over three to six months. Anyone promising enquiries in week one is guessing.
I have not registered the business yet. Does that matter?
You can create a Google Business Profile without being a limited company — sole traders do it constantly. What matters is that whatever name you trade under is used consistently on the profile, the website and everywhere else, because Google checks for agreement across sources.
