Business Listings Management: Google, Apple Maps, Bing and the Directories Behind Them

Azizi TechnologiesUpdated

Business listings management keeps one set of details, name, address or service area, phone, hours and services, identical across Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places and the UK directories that feed them. Inconsistent listings split the signals that decide local rankings and give AI assistants conflicting answers about the same business.

Most UK small businesses have a Google Business Profile they look after and a scattering of other listings they have forgotten: an Apple Maps entry created from a data feed, a Bing listing imported years ago, directory pages carrying an old phone number, and a Companies House record with a former address. Every one of those is read by something.

This is the service that brings them into line and keeps them there. It is deliberately unglamorous work with a measurable point: consistent details are one of the signals local search rankings rest on, and they are what an AI assistant checks when it decides whether it knows enough about you to make a recommendation.

What we manage

  • Google Business Profile: the main listing, covered in depth on the profile pages linked below.
  • Apple Maps, through Apple Business, formerly Apple Business Connect: the listing every iPhone user sees when they search Maps or ask Siri.
  • Bing Places: Microsoft's listing, which also feeds Copilot's local answers.
  • The UK directories that matter for your trade: Yell, Thomson Local, FreeIndex, Scoot, Cylex, trade bodies and scheme finders.
  • Your own website's contact details, footer and schema, which is the source everything else is checked against.
  • Companies House and your insurer's records where they carry a stale address, because reviewers cross-check them.

Why consistency is worth paying for

Search engines and assistants build a picture of a business by comparing what different sources say about it. When the sources agree, the picture is strong and the business is easy to recommend. When they disagree, each version is weaker, and a listing showing an old address or a disconnected phone number quietly loses the calls it should have won.

Consistency also protects the Google profile. A mismatch between the profile and the web is one of the things reviewers check during a suspension appeal, and a directory carrying a keyword-stuffed old name can undo a correction you have just made.

How the work runs

First, an audit: we find every listing that exists for the business, including the ones nobody created deliberately, and record what each one says. That list is usually longer than owners expect. Then we agree the single correct version of the details, and correct or claim each listing to match it, starting with the ones that feed the others.

After that it is maintenance: new listings appear, data feeds regenerate old ones, and details drift. Monthly checking catches that before it costs anything.

Apple Maps and Bing are not optional any more

Every iPhone opens Apple Maps by default, and Siri answers from Apple Business data. Bing feeds Copilot and Windows search. Neither will match Google for volume for most UK trades, but both are close to unclaimed by comparison, which makes them cheap to win. The individual guides for Apple Maps and Bing Places listing problems are linked below.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers, no small print. If yours isn’t here, ask — you’ll get the same plain English.

What is business listings management?

Keeping one accurate set of business details across every place that publishes them: Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places, directories, trade bodies and your own website. It covers claiming listings you do not control, correcting the ones that are wrong, removing duplicates, and checking regularly, because data feeds regenerate old information.

Do Apple Maps and Bing listings actually matter in the UK?

They matter more than their search share suggests. Apple Maps is the default on every iPhone and feeds Siri; Bing feeds Copilot and Windows search. Volumes are far below Google's, but competition for those listings is far lower too, so they are usually the cheapest local visibility a UK small business can add.

Will fixing my listings improve my Google rankings?

Consistency is one of several signals behind local rankings, alongside reviews, relevance and proximity, so fixing it helps but rarely transforms a position on its own. Where it makes the clearest difference is with businesses whose details are genuinely contradictory across the web, and in protecting a profile from suspension.

Can you manage listings for several locations?

Yes. Multi-location businesses are quoted per location, with one audit for each and a single combined report. The audit matters more here, because duplicate and mismatched listings between branches are a common cause of one location outranking another for no visible reason, and of suspensions.

What do you need from me to start?

The business name, postcode, phone number, website and the hours you actually keep, plus a note of any former names or addresses. If you know which listings exist, send them, but the audit finds them anyway, including ones created by data feeds that no one at the business set up.
